For Pack 101, the uniform is more than just clothing; it is a visible symbol of a Scout’s commitment to the values of the Scout Oath and Law. However, we also recognize that uniforms are an investment, and we want to ensure they are accessible for all families in Roane County.
The uniform serves to identify the Scout as a member of a worldwide brotherhood and a member of Pack 101. We strive for "Uniformity," but we prioritize the Scout's participation over perfect dress.
The Class A uniform is the official button-down shirt (blue for Lions through Webelos, tan for Arrow of Light). This should be worn to:
Pack Meetings (Blue & Gold, Crossovers, etc.)
Official Ceremonies
Community Events (Parades, Flag Ceremonies)
Fundraisers (such as our community BBQ sales)
Required Components:
The Shirt: With proper insignia (Council patch, Pack 101 numerals, and current Rank patch).
The Neckerchief & Slide: Specific to the Scout's current rank.
The Belt: Official Scout belt (used to display earned adventure loops).
Note: Official Scout pants/shorts are encouraged but not required by the Pack. Clean, dark-colored pants or jeans without holes are an acceptable substitute.
The Class B uniform is typically a Pack 101 t-shirt or any Scouting-related t-shirt. This is designed for high-activity events where the Class A might get damaged or is impractical.
When to Wear: Den meetings, hikes, campouts, and "workshop" days.
Availability: Pack 101 t-shirts are available for purchase periodically throughout the year.
In line with our No-Dues philosophy, we want to keep costs manageable:
The Basics First: If a family is just starting out, the shirt and neckerchief are the most important pieces.
Uniform Bank: The Pack attempts to maintain a "Uniform Bank" of gently used shirts and accessories donated by former Scouts. If your family needs assistance with uniforming, please contact the Committee Chairman or Cubmaster privately.
Patches & Awards: As noted in our membership policy, the Pack provides award cards. Families may choose to purchase the physical belt loops or pins at their convenience to display on the uniform belt or "Adventure Colors" for Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts.
Hats: Official rank-specific hats are optional.
Shoes: For safety, closed-toe shoes (sneakers or boots) are required for all Scouting activities. Sandals or flip-flops are only permitted during specific water activities or while at a designated swimming area.
While we take pride in looking like a "Pack," no Scout will ever be excluded from an activity or ceremony because they do not have a full or perfect uniform. We are more interested in the Scout in the shirt than the patches on it.
