Our goal for Pack 101 is to make Scouting accessible to every family in Roane County. We believe that the lessons of the Scout Oath and Law are valuable for every child, regardless of their financial situation or their other extracurricular commitments.
To encourage maximum participation, Pack 101 does not charge annual Pack-level dues.
Pay-to-Play: Instead of a large upfront cost, we operate on an activity fee basis. You only pay for the specific events, camps, or activities your Scout chooses to attend.
Flexibility: If your Scout plays seasonal sports or has other commitments, they are welcome to participate when they are available without the burden of having "wasted" a full year’s dues.
Financial Accessibility: This model is designed to support families by spreading costs out over time rather than requiring a large lump sum.
While our Pack structure is flexible, national safety standards are not.
Official Registration: Every Scout and participating leader must be officially registered through Scouting America.
Insurance & Safety: This registration is a hard requirement for insurance coverage and is mandatory for participation in any Pack or Den activity.
National Fees: Please note that while the Pack does not charge dues, the National and Council registration fees are still required and must be paid through the official registration portal at https://my.scouting.org/tools/my-applications.
To keep our costs as low as possible for families, the Pack handles recognition in a specific way:
Official Documentation: All advancement is officially recorded in Scoutbook and recognized at our meetings with an official award card.
Award Purchases: Families may choose to purchase the physical belt loops or pins at the local Scout Shop if they wish to display them on the uniform. This ensures that "pay-to-play" truly means you only pay for the specific items you value.
Cub Scouting is a family-based program, not a "drop-off" service.
The Role of Akela: Parents are expected to act as "Akela" (the leader) for their Scouts, especially for activities completed at home.
Shared Leadership: Because we do not charge dues, our Pack relies entirely on volunteer power. Every family is encouraged to contribute in some way—whether it’s helping at a meeting, registering as a leader, or assisting with the Pinewood Derby or a fundraiser.
